Hi guys and gals, Jason Bond here.
Buying out of the money options are low probability trades.
They have no real value.
Just time value.
Therefore, the seller has a high probability of winning.
Let’s look at my TSLA trade alert this morning.
At 9:41 AM ET I did the following:
Step #1: sell the $252.50 puts at $4.20
Step #2: buy the $247.50 puts at $2.28
The difference between those is $1.92 so that’s my entry price.
This is called a short put vertical spread.
I love this strategy for trying to grow $2,000 balances.
My current balance is up to $8,105 or 305%.
Winning 25 of the 27 trade alerts.
So here’s what’s happening.
The $4.20 and $2.28 I circled above represent nothing but time value.
Every minute the stock stays above the sold strike or $252.50 each of the $4.20 and $2.28 entries I circled above moves toward $0.
See how the ‘Marks’ are lower than the trade price in the screenshot above?
So at 10:17 AM ET I closed this trade up 28% or $540 profit.
But look, I left a ton on the table. Remember, the trade makes money the more TIME those options have to decay.
Here’s the same screenshot of my closed trade showing the ‘Marks’ at the end of the day.
Look at how much more time value those options lost by the end of the day.
Had I held this trade into the close I’d be up 43% or $830.
Because as the stock held above the sold strike $252.50 the TIME VALUE of those options moved toward $0.
Yes, someone bought $252.50 TSLA puts from me today for $4.20 and by the end of the day they were down to $1.88.
And the current balance crossed $8,000 today or 305% winning 25 of 27 trades.
Results not typical. Trading is hard. Nothing is guaranteed.
